OIL SHORTAGES ARE GOOD FOR AMERICA
Americans need to wake up. The foot print we are leaving on the earth is far too damaging. Natural resources are dwindling. Oil, the hottest commodity on the planet, is gradually becoming a scarcity. China and India have seen an average economic growth of almost 9% per country, per year, for 4 straight years. An estimated 10,000 new automobiles are on the road every day in China. America is shackled to the Middle East and other countries for there ever more costly supply of oil. We import over half of our oil, consumption consistently increases with no end in sight. Americans must rid themselves of this ridiculous and self satisfying oil dependence. Gas is currently $3.00 plus a gallon. (4/21/06) The incessant burning of fossil fuels (oil's derivative) is raping the Earth. As we are now seeing, a constant reliance on foreign oil is an absolute threat to the national security of America. A great amount of the world's oil is controlled by enemies of the American Republic (OPEC) who wish to do nothing more than reek havoc on our economy with their control of oil production, feigned oil shortages, and other manipulative oil price control tactics. OPEC countries include Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. With all of our money going to these countries and others is it not reasonable to question how much of our money is being funneled to terrorist front groups, or their allies? This is a rational question based in logic. The majority of OPEC ( Organization of the Oil Exporting Countries) country members have a general hatred for America and it's inhabitants. They wish to financially bleed the Great Satan.
For selfish reasons I would like to see gasoline go to $4.00 plus a gallon. My rational for this type of thinking is quite simple. America, the king of all capitalistic societies is motivated primarily by two things, the realization of an economic profit and the loss of profit. When and if Americans lose money and or are inconvenienced( How many times have you heard that one?) they will want change. I conceive that the economy can sustain significant monthly job growth (75,000- 125,000 payroll jobs) with gas at $3.00 to $3.50 a gallon. Once we reach the $4.oo per gallon era the economy will feel quite the negative ripple. Economic spending will decrease across the board, cost of goods will skyrocket, consumer confidence will decrease, and employers will begin to layoff workers. Can you spell RECESSION? In essence we need to bleed the beast (American Consumer) so that it will change it's ways.

We need to change our way of viewing the automobile. Most persons will look at a vehicle as a necessity, as an object that one must use to travel from point A to point B, and as something one must have in life to get ahead. Our minds must be conditioned whereas we will look at an automobile in the light it truly needs to be seen and that is as an environmental polluter. What are people thinking when they continue to buy these humongous, fuel inefficient vehicles when the cost of gas is skyrocketing? We need smaller motor vehicles, period. If this mindset can be achieved citizens of the world will become more conscious of the environmental effects of the motor vehicle and will seek out more fuel efficient cars; this is only the tip of the iceberg. This awareness may lead others to live lives more in tune with environmental stewardship. The primary desire is to simply change the way one views the Earth's dwindling natural resources and their effects on the Earth and our pocket books.
The citizens of America need to decrease their consumption of oil and seek out alternative fuel sources. Out there in the world, there are viable and marketable alternative fuel sources waiting to be fully utilized.
E85
E85 is the wave of the future. E85 is a fuel combination of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent unleaded gas. It stands for ethyl alcohol and pours right into your car just like regular gasoline. Ethanol is made from corn, switchgrass, wheat, barley, potatoes, etc. As technology progresses ethanol will be made from other sources including, corn stalks, grain straw, paper pulp, municipal solid waste, and other sources.

There are over 180,000 gas stations in America. Roughly 600 of these gas stations sell E85!?
Ethanol is used in flexible fuel vehicles. (FFV) Flex fuel vehicles operate specifically off of a combination of ethanol and gasoline.

Why Should we use E85?
CLEANER BURNING GAS
Ethanol is a more environmentally friendly and cleaner burning fuel than your typical gasoline. E85 has also been proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It also emits less hydrocarbons into the atnosphere in comparison to standard gasoline.
PROVEN RESOURCES
The production of E85 could be an economic boom for America. The United States is host to the greatest and most efficient farmers in the world. These farmers could harvest corn, sugarcane, switchgrass and other crops for ethanol production. As time would tell it is quite feasible that America could domestically produce all of it's own gasoline demand.
SAVE AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURES FROM BANKRUPTCY
American Automobile manufacturers could work in unison with American Farmers, the Dept of Energy and Agriculture (by means of providing subsidies/research and development ) in producing a worldwide ethanol vehicle standard. First and foremost U.S. automotive manufacturers would need to establish a sizable amount of their new automobiles as E85 flex fuel vehicles. This would establish E85 as the dominant fuel standard. Ford and GM will have to get a jump on E85 knowing very well that America clearly outperforms Japan and Germany in producing raw resources and material. (Corn, switchgrass, sugarcane) If Ford and GM could conduct some serious research and development on different methods of burning ethanol an industry breakthrough could be realized. As extensive research continues, industry standards and patents could be issued. This would in turn place U.S. automotive companies at the forefront of E85 technology.
CREATE A CASH SOURCE FOR U.S. AUTOMOTIVE MANUFACTURERS
In addition, Ford and General Motors could look into purchasing or building refineries that process Ethanol. In time Ethanol would be sold as a commodity in the worldwide marketplace. If U.S. automobile manufacturers can control a certain amount of the Ethanol marketshare and efficiently operate Ethanol refineries an economic profit will be realized. The objective here is to to create a badly needed incoming revenue stream for American automotive companies.
Side note:
In order for this to work Farmers would produce the ethanol using their advanced machinery, resources, and raw material. American farmers would then sell American oil companies ethanol at a significantly discounted domestic rate. As worldwide demand would increase American ethanol producers would begin to export ethanol to other countries WITH tariffs.
Another noteworthy idea would be to create Ethanol enterprise zones (EEZ) where U.S. automobile manufacturers, refineries, and Ethanol Farms are located in close proximity to one another. This plan would be modeled by other countries, therefore increasing worldwide Ethanol production and lowering cost.
AMERICA COULD PRODUCE ENOUGH E85 TO SATISFY ITS DOMESTIC GAS NEEDS
Does this sound crazy to you? It shouldn't. Until 1970 America nearly produced enough barrels of oil to satisfy it's current oil demand. As automobile usage increased demand skyrocketed. At it's highest point of production, America was producing 10.5- 11 million barrels of oil a day. With the full implementation of Americas resources, raw material, technology, farmers and government subsidies it is quite possible enough domestic ethanol could be produced to satisfy the U.S. demand for fuel. (One must note that this would take at least 30-40 years to be realized.)
E85 DOWNSIDE
The only downside to E85 is it is less fuel efficient than regular gasoline. For every gallon of E85 you can expect to drive 5-7 miles less than a typical gallon of gas. As time goes on E85 fuel efficiency will only increase. In order to be cost efficient and marketable E85 will have to be sold at 70% the cost of regular gasoline.
DID YOU KNOW?
- America consumes 22 million barrel's of oil a day. (4/2006)
- The United States produces 4.5 million barrels of oil a day. (Down from 10.5 million barrels in 1970)
- One barrel of crude oil makes about 19 gallons of gasoline, 9 gallons of fuel oil, 4 gallons of jet fuel, and 11 gallons of other products.
- America imports 65% of its oil.
- The World consumes 85 million barrels of oil a day. (4/2006)
- Over 65% of the World's proven oil reserves are in the Middle East.
In the end, the bottom line is this, we must change our self serving consumption habits. We must drive more fuel efficient vehicles that are smaller. We must decrease suburban sprawl development, which only increases commute time. $$$ Vehicle size needs to decrease not increase. We must multitask when were are out on the road. Greatest of all we need to greatly invest in E85, hybrid vehicles, and public transportation. We cannot pass off until tomorrow the responsibility of our generation. Tomorrow is already here. We must confront this energy crisis head on. If and when a tax increase is needed to support a major fuel alternative program all Americans should support it. Period. Whats the alternative? Recession? Inconvenience?!
